16668 Stepping On Board Italyandrsquos Largest Sailing Yacht Sybaris

Designed and built by Perini Navi, the stunning state of the art 70m ketch S/Y Sybaris was a standout winner at the 2017 Superyacht Design Awards.  Shortlisted as a finalist in six categories, Sybaris won more awards than any other superyacht, taking home the gold Neptune trophies for the Best Interior Layout & Design and Best Lighting Design as well as the award for Newcomer of the Year which was presented to PH Design.  For the Miami based interior designers Peter Hawrylewicz and Ken Lieber it was a particularly momentous occasion as Sybaris marked their first foray into yachting.

Reflecting on the project and the awards, the owner of Sybaris acknowledged the unprecedented effort that went into the design and build of Sybaris and stated; “I am delighted that the extraordinary work that realised a dream was recognised by the design community, as a unique work of art that has inspired and delighted others.”

Quite simply a momentous yacht Sybaris was designed by Perini’s in-house team lead by Franco Romania with expertise from naval architect Philippe Briand.  She has a 72m carbon Rondal mainmast and a 62m mizzen that set a total of 3,000sq m of sail (the giant reacher alone is 1,092sq m).  Sailhandling uses captive winches capable of handling 40-tonne loads and are calibrated by the automated systems that Fabio Perini originally invented and continues to innovate.  The size and scale of the sailing and deck hardware is impressive, and Sybaris’s interior is just as imposing.  Sybaris accommodates 12 guests in six luxurious cabins.
